Painting, Painting, Painting...

Many of the classes have been starting their year off in the art room with painting.

In First grade, students read the book "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds. Students practiced using their watercolor paints, and painted their own dots.

In second grade, students have been exploring line and primary colors with their "Roadtrip" projects. Students needed to tell a story using just lines.

First Day Jitters

Hi everyone! I hope everyone had an awesome first day of school. The art room is up and running, even though I only got to see two wonderful classes today.
Usually during their first art class, students mainly get a refresher on all the rules and routines we have here in room 135. But all of the students have many things to look forward to. For one thing, thanks to the PTO, I will be updating this blog more regularly with this fantastic iPad. With the iPad, I can create class photo albums to share, and document all of our fabulous projects throughout the year. We are also going to be trying out lots of fun art apps to aid in our exploration on the arts.
Another thing to look forward to, Bren Bataclan is making another appearance at our school. This time, he will be staying for a whole week to complete a mural in the kindergarten hallway. This could not have been possible without the generosity of the Hingham Education Foundation, so thank you so much!
As always, we have many events during the school year that promote the arts including China Trade, Winterfest, and Fine Arts Night (which will be changing a bit this year). I will be sure to keep everyone updated on these events as the school year goes on.
Thanks for reading! If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to email me at anytime during the school year at srollins@hinghamschools.org.
